High School Bands

Marching Red Hawks

The Marching Red Hawks are a musical marching unit that meets during the first semester of the school year. The ensemble consists of woodwinds, brass, percussion, and a color guard. Membership requires total dedication and maximum effort in marching, playing, rehearsal, and performance. Failure to meet these requirements can result in a dismissal from the ensemble.    

The Marching Band performs at all home football games, the Red Flannel Festival Invitational and Grand Parade, and the Michigan Competing Bands Association (MCBA) competitions on select Saturdays. The class meets from early-August through early-November in daily and weekly evening rehearsals. The color guard and percussion sections may be expected to rehearse once every week in addition to the scheduled class meetings. Participation in the Marching Band will result in mandatory attendance at all rehearsals and performances.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble features the finest musicians in the Cedar Springs Band Program. The Wind Ensemble begins meeting in November and is made up of students from all grade levels. The Wind Ensemble performs the finest wind literature and continues the development of refined, professional skills. The Wind Ensemble will perform 3-4 concerts throughout the school year and during the month of March is a participant in the MSBOA Band Festival. This select group will also participate in outside musical opportunities when they present themselves.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is one of two concert bands in the Cedar Springs High School band program.  The Symphonic Band begins meeting in November and is made up of students from all grade levels.  The Concert Band focuses on developing and refining instrument playing skills and performing quality music literature.  The Concert Band will perform 3-4 concerts throughout the school year and during the month of March is a participant in the MSBOA Band Festival.

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band is a co-curricular ensemble of the Cedar Springs High School band program. The Jazz Band begins meeting in November and is made up of students from all grade levels. The band focuses on rehearsing and performing the various styles of jazz, R & B, swing, rock, fusion, etc., and will perform at several concerts and events throughout the year.
